Citizens Financial Group Chairman and CEO Ellen Alemany honored by Foreign Policy Association with Corporate Social Responsibility Award
Providence, R.I. (May 18, 2011) - Citizens Financial Group, Inc. announced today that Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ellen Alemany is a 2011 recipient of the Foreign Policy Association’s (FPA) Corporate Social Responsibility Award. Presented at the Foreign Policy Association's annual dinner to be held tonight at the St. Regis Hotel, the Corporate Social Responsibility Award is given to an individual or corporation for demonstrating exceptional corporate citizenship in the communities they serve.
In presenting the award, the FPA commended Ms. Alemany’s leadership in making Citizens Financial Group’s commitment to community service and social responsibility a fundamental part of its operations, as evidenced by the launch of its Good Banking is Good Citizenship program highlighting the bank’s long tradition of outreach and community service. Citizens employees have volunteered over 570,000 hours of their time to thousands of various charities and community organizations. In 2010, the company supported more than 2,000 nonprofit organizations.
"We are pleased to recognize Ellen for her corporate citizenship and the leadership she has demonstrated," said Noel V. Lateef, president and CEO of the Foreign Policy Association. “At a moment when the public view of the banking industry has been greatly diminished, Ellen exemplifies the good that bankers can do when they focus on the needs of their communities.”
“On behalf of my 21,000 Citizens Financial Group colleagues in the United States, I am honored by this special award,” said Ellen Alemany, Chairman of Citizens Financial Group. “Good citizenship is embedded in our culture. We know that it is the charter of a good bank and that it is the foundation on which our brand and our good reputation have been built. To us, citizenship is the promise that we make to our customers, colleagues and communities. It’s about facilitating the growth and prosperity of families and businesses and it’s about being part of our communities.”
Earlier this year, Ms. Alemany was elected to the board of trustees of the National Constitution Center, the independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization in Philadelphia chaired by President William J. Clinton that is dedicated to increasing public understanding of the U.S. Constitution and the ideas and values it represents. She also serves on the board for the Center for Discovery, which offers rehabilitation programs for disabled individuals, on the Providence College Business Advisory Council and on the boards of the Financial Services Roundtable and The Clearing House Payments Company, a world leader in the payments business that provides payment services for check, electronic check, ACH and wire transfers. From 2008 through 2010, she was the First District Representative on the Federal Advisory Council, directly consulting with and advising the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.
Previous recipients of the FPA Corporate Social Responsibility Award include Paul S. Otellini, president and CEO, Intel Corporation; Paolo Scaroni, Chief Executive Officer, ENI; Brendan Dougher, Managing Partner, New York Metro Region, PricewaterhouseCoopers; David M.
