Citizens Bank in Philadelphia receives PCDC’s Community Service Award

Bank recognized for ongoing support of Chinatown community projects

PHILADELPHIA (February 15, 2011) - Citizens Bank was presented on Friday, Feb. 11 with the Community Service Award by the Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corp. in recognition of many years of support for the Chinatown community.

Daniel K. Fitzpatrick, Citizens Bank President and CEO for Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, accepted the award for the bank at a Chinese New Year celebration dinner held in Chinatown.

“Citizens Bank has enjoyed a strong working relationship with the PCDC specifically and Chinatown in general,” Fitzpatrick said. “Philadelphia is often described as a city of neighborhoods. We take great pride in helping to keep Chinatown as one of the city’s most vital communities. Citizens Bank is honored to accept this award and we look forward to continuing our strong partnership for many years to come.”

At the dinner, Fitzpatrick presented PCDC board members Cecilia Moy Yep and Carol Wong with a framed autographed Roy Halladay poster commemorating the Philadelphia Phillies pitcher’s May 29, 2010 perfect game.

“We are so grateful to Citizens Bank for its support of PCDC and of Chinatown,” said John Chin, Executive Director of PCDC. “From its charitable contributions to support of our economic development initiatives to its hands-on volunteerism, Citizens Bank is truly a great corporate citizen.”

PCDC is a grassroots, nonprofit, community-based organization whose mission is to preserve, protect, and promote Chinatown as a viable ethnic, residential, and business community. Over the past six years, the Citizens Bank Foundation has supported PCDC’s economic development initiatives with grants totaling more than $80,000. Recently, the Citizens Bank Foundation made a $25,000 grant for the forthcoming Chinatown Night Market that will play a vital role in revitalizing the commercial corridor.

Citizens Bank’s support has also included Phillies baseball tickets and the donation of 200 youth winter coats to Children's Village, a child care and education program serving working families in Chinatown. In January 2008, Citizens Bank recognized PCDC as a Champion in Action® for its work in providing affordable housing.
