Citizens Bank announces winner of baseball glove autographed by Phillies second baseman Chase Utley
Roxborough baseball fan among many who donated baseball gloves to help Phillies Jr. RBI League players
PHILADELPHIA (September 23, 2010) - Citizens Bank announced today that a Roxborough man won the autographed Chase Utley baseball glove in conjunction with the Citizens Bank Helping Hands Glove donation program.
Justin Monteforte, 29, was selected at random among fans who donated new and gently used baseball gloves to benefit children in the Phillies Jr. RBI League program. Monteforte donated a new Easton youth glove and entered the contest. As part of winning the contest, he attended the September 22 Phillies game and was presented with the autographed glove during on-field pre-game ceremonies.
“I heard about the contest and was in a sporting goods store, so I decided to help someone in need and bought the glove,” Monteforte said. “I started playing baseball when I was five years old and didn’t stop until my freshman year in college, so I know baseball can be an important part of someone’s life. I still play in a couple softball leagues.”
Since 2005, the Citizens Bank Helping Hands program has provided more than 4,000 gloves donated by Citizens Bank and Phillies fans. The baseball gloves benefit children under 12 who are involved with the Phillies Jr. RBI League program.
“The partnership Citizens Bank has with the Phillies and the Jr. RBI League is vitally important in helping inner-city children achieve their dreams of playing baseball and softball,” said Daniel K. Fitzpatrick, Citizens Bank President and CEO for Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. “Thanks to the legions of dedicated Phillies fans, many children received gloves and will be able to be a part of America’s favorite pastime.”
The Jr. RBI League was created to encourage inner-city youths to participate in baseball programs and helps more than 5,000 children throughout Philadelphia, New Jersey and Delaware.
“The Phillies and Citizens Bank have been a great team in promoting baseball and softball to inner-city children,” said Jon Joaquin, Fan Development Coordinator for the Phillies. “Uniforms and playing equipment are provided to leagues, but there never are enough gloves. We’re grateful to both Citizens Bank and Phillies fans for again stepping up to the plate to donate gloves.”
