Citizens Bank and NECN announce Champions in Action categories for 2011 in Massachusetts
BOSTON (September 15, 2010) - Citizens Bank and NECN today announced the categories for the 2011 Champions in Action® program, which provides financial, volunteer and PR support to small nonprofits doing big things in the community. Economic Development, Food and Nutrition, Veterans Services, and Homelessness are the four areas of focus.
Nonprofit organizations which provide the following will be announced in 2011:
• Economic Development will be selected and announced in January 2011: The application deadline is Friday, October 8, 2010 at 5 p.m.
• Food and Nutrition will be selected and announced in April 2011. The application deadline is Friday, January 7, 2011 at 5 p.m.
• Veterans Services will be selected and announced in July 2011. The application deadline is Friday, March 25, 2011 at 5 p.m.
• Homelessness will be selected and announced in October 2011. The application deadline is Friday, July 1, 2011 at 5 p.m.

Launched in 2002, Champions in Action is designed to recognize and support nonprofit organizations for their contributions to Massachusetts communities. A new champion is selected each quarter among a range of social service areas.
In Massachusetts, Citizens and NECN have committed approximately $1.5 million in grants and airtime to 32 organizations dedicated to issues including environmental preservation, elder care, youth programming and community health care.
