Citizens Bank fills and donates 300 backpacks to Connecticut Association of Foster and Adoptive Parents

New London, Ct. (August 31, 2010) - Customers and colleagues of Citizens Bank contributed enough schools supplies for more than 300 new backpacks to be filled and donated to the Connecticut Association of Foster and Adoptive Parents through the bank’s Gear for Grades program, which ran from July 19 through August 6.

The collection of basic school supplies – pencils, pens, crayons, glue sticks, rulers, erasers, scissors, spiral notebooks – took place in each of the 51 Citizens Bank branches in Connecticut.  Across New England, nearly 23,000 backpacks were filled with supplies and distributed to kids working with a variety of local nonprofit organizations.

“This year’s Gear for Grades program was very successful and we’d like to thank our customers and friends for their support in helping kids in the state’s foster and adoptive care system get ready for the start of the school year,” said Chris Riley, Director of Public Affairs for Citizens Bank in Connecticut. “We are proud to be working with the Connecticut Association of Foster and Adoptive Parents once again this year and look forward to supporting the important work that they do across the state.”

“The continued generosity of the Citizens Bank staff and customers will allow many of our children to start the school year with all the supplies they need that might not otherwise be provided for them. Starting the school year on the right foot is an important part of having a productive and positive academic experience,” said Jean Fiorito, executive director at Connecticut Association of Foster and Adoptive Parents.
