Citizens Bank names Bridgeport Neighborhood Trust its newest Champion in Action in Connecticut
New London, Ct. (July 21, 2010) - Citizens Bank has announced that Bridgeport Neighborhood Trust (BNT) has been recognized as a Champion in Action® for the third quarter of 2010 in the area of environmental impact.
The award was announced by Citizens Bank, during an on-air segment of the noon newscast on News 8 WTNH earlier today. The award includes a $25,000 grant from the Citizens Bank Foundation.
“Citizens Bank is proud to recognize Bridgeport Neighborhood Trust for its advocacy and promotion of safe and decent affordable housing,” said Lori Lindfors, Director of Community Relations for Citizens Bank. “Its approach to build and market ‘green affordable’ homes demonstrates cost-effective and replicable construction practices that can serve as a model for other communities.”
Since 1986, the mission of Bridgeport Neighborhood Trust has been to strengthen communities by embracing a comprehensive approach to revitalization through advocacy, education, investment and technical support. BNT develops affordable housing and creates healthy homes with a focus on lead remediation. The organization also provides extensive homeownership counseling for low-income families.
“Bridgeport Neighborhood Trust is committed to strengthening neighborhoods through the development of affordable housing that is both high-quality and environmentally responsible. We will continue the important work of implementing, coordinating and supporting programs and initiatives that create healthy homes in Bridgeport,” said Elizabeth Torres, Executive Director of BNT.
Champions in Action is a partnership between Citizens Bank and News 8 WTNH, launched in 2002, to provide financial support and public awareness to the nonprofit organizations that work every day to champion change in our communities.
Each quarter, a nonprofit organization among a range of social service topics in Connecticut is recognized as a Champion in Action. Each champion in action receives the following support in addition to the $25,000 grant from the Citizens Bank Foundation:

• Volunteer support from Citizens Bank and News 8 WTNH /MyTV9.
• Public relations support and promotional support through visibility at Citizen Bank branches and
