Citizens Bank donates $125,000 to Hosanna House, Inc. in Pittsburgh
Donation part of a $2.5 million 10 year commitment to provide health and social services for the disadvantaged
PITTSBURGH, PA. (April 23, 2010) - Citizens Bank today announced it has provided a $125,000 grant to Hosanna House, Inc. in Wilkinsburg as part of a $2.5 million, 10-year commitment to help the nonprofit organization expand its services. This initiative is part of a program through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development that helps to form partnerships between the private sector and community groups. Since the partnership began in 2003 Citizens has provided $1.750 million in grants to Hosanna House.
“Citizens Bank is committed to supporting the very important work that Hosanna House does in the community,” said Ralph J. Papa, Chairman of Citizens Bank of Pennsylvania. “Executive Director Leon Haynes and his staff do an excellent job of empowering families and individuals to discover, acknowledge and develop their maximum potential physically, spiritually and economically.”
However, Citizens’ commitment to Hosanna House reaches beyond a monetary commitment. The bank also supports the nonprofit’s mission by providing fiscal management, technical assistance and volunteer support. In 2003 Citizens sponsored a bank colleague to volunteer at Hosanna House for a three-month paid leave of absence through the Citizens Community Service Sabbatical Program.
Citizens also regularly sponsors community workshops at Hosanna House on topics such as home buying, credit restoration, job hunting and banking. In addition, Citizens colleagues regularly volunteer at Hosanna House for the annual Sherwood Work Day, a clean-up day devoted to preparing the summer camp grounds for more than 250 underprivileged children each year. For the past seven years, the Citizens Leadership Team has also assisted Hosanna House with assembling and distributing holiday food baskets to homeless families and seniors.

Hosanna House, Inc. is a multi-purpose community center that serves more than 27,000 people annually by empowering families and individuals to discover, acknowledge and develop their maximum potential physically, spiritually and economically. The nonprofit provides a variety of services and programs that include: early childhood education, youth recreation, tutoring and mentoring, youth and adult technology, men’s services, workforce development, health and dental care, and permanent supportive housing. All the services they provide have been initiated as a response to the needs of the community.
