Citizens Bank kicks off 2010 Penn State University button contest
Competition now in its 38th year
STATE COLLEGE, PA. (April 7, 2010) - Citizens Bank of Pennsylvania today announced the kickoff of the bank’s 38th annual Penn State University booster button contest. The contest allows Penn State fans of all ages to submit slogans for any or all of the 12 Nittany Lion football games (listed below) as well as the slogans for Penn State’s men’s basketball, Lady Lion basketball, wrestling, ice hockey and volleyball seasons.
"Citizens Bank is proud to be part of Penn State’s long and illustrious athletic tradition," said Ralph J. Papa, Chairman of Citizens Bank of Pennsylvania and a Penn State alumnus. "Now in its 38th year, the button program still captures fans’ imaginations, while the contest challenges their wits."
Each fall, Citizens Bank distributes free booster buttons in central Pennsylvania. Every week there is a unique slogan for the upcoming Nittany Lion football rivalry. Initiated in 1972, the button program has expanded over the years to include the spring public slogan contest and the single-season programs for other Penn State sports teams. In 2009, Citizens Bank received more than 2,500 slogan submissions and distributed more than 275,000 buttons during the season.
Fans interested in participating in the slogan contest may pick up an entry form at Citizens Bank locations in Centre, Blair and Mifflin counties. All entries should be submitted by May 7 to be considered.
Winning slogans, chosen by representatives of Penn State and Citizens Bank, will be selected based on wit, originality and brevity. Winners are expected to be announced in June and will receive $25 for each winning entry.
