Amos House named Champion in Action in the Addiction Prevention & Treatment Services category

Citizens Bank and NBC 10 provide $35,000 funding, public relations and volunteer support

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Amos House has been named a 2017 Champion in Action® in the category of addiction prevention & treatment services. The award, announced jointly by Citizens Bank and NBC 10, includes $35,000 in unrestricted funding as well as promotional and volunteer support for the organization’s outstanding work.

Amos House provides hospitality and direct services to men, women and children in Rhode Island who are hungry, homeless and in crisis with a particular commitment to helping people who battle addiction. They provide daily meals, permanent supportive housing, vocational and literacy training, and jobs to their guests. They are the area’s only recovery-based shelter.

The organization will use the Champions in Action award to create awareness of expanded programs and services, and to support social services staff delivering addiction treatment, including 90-Day Transitional Housing Program coordinators and outreach staff.

Champions in Action is part of Citizens Helping Citizens Strengthen Communities, the bank’s program designed to enhance quality of life and economic vitality in local communities. It provides support for nonprofit organizations to recognize their contributions to communities throughout Rhode Island.

“Amos House has made an enormous impact in Rhode Island and in the lives of those who are recovering from addiction,” said Barbara Cottam, Rhode Island market executive, Citizens Bank. “We are proud to embrace our next Champion in Action as they expand their services and outreach to continue supporting more people throughout Rhode Island who are on the road to recovery.”
