Hosanna Industries in Pittsburgh Named Champion in Action for Strengthening Communities
Citizens Bank, WPXI, Trib Total Media, and Pittsburgh Cares provide $35,000 funding, PR and volunteer support
PITTSBURGH, PA (July 24, 2014) – Citizens Bank, WPXI-TV, Trib Total Media and Pittsburgh Cares announced today that Hosanna Industries, Inc. in Pittsburgh is the latest nonprofit to be named a Champion in Action®.
Hosanna Industries, Inc. received the Champion in Action award for its critical work leading volunteers in disaster recovery, and training young people in the trade skills to give them a hope for the future. Hosanna Industries, Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides new construction and repair/rehabilitation services for low income homeowners that has provided nearly $50 million worth of charitable work to the community.
As a Champion in Action, Hosanna Industries will receive a $35,000 contribution from Citizens Bank, media coverage, and extensive promotional and volunteer support.
"Safe and secure housing is of critical importance and Hosanna Industries has been a resource for more than 3,000 Pittsburgh area residents in need of costly home repair,” said Daniel K. Fitzpatrick, President and CEO of Citizens Bank and RBS Citizens for Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. “Through volunteers who are handy with their hammers and generous with their hearts, disadvantaged homeowners have new roofs and warm homes while others are learning new construction skills."
Launched in 2002, Champions in Action is a joint initiative of Citizens Bank, WPXI-TV, Trib Total Media and Pittsburgh Cares that provides various forms of support to small nonprofit organizations in recognition of their contributions to communities throughout the Pittsburgh area. To date, the program has awarded 34 nonprofits and nearly $1 million in grants and promotional support in Pittsburgh.
Founded in 1990, Hosanna Industries has provided nearly $50 million worth of charitable work to the community while providing young adults with the skills to gain employment.

Citizens Bank officials, along with representatives from WPXI-TV, made the announcement where volunteers are working on rehabbing a home on Third Avenue in Tarentum. During the announcement, Hosanna Industries officials stressed the labor of love volunteers have for the organization and the disadvantaged residents they help.
"We are on a mission to make sure families live in dignity, in a safe and secure environment,” said Donn Ed, Executive Director of Hosanna industries, Inc. “In addition to the work we are doing in Pittsburgh we travel to disaster areas to repair homes damaged by tornadoes, hurricanes, or other catastrophic events. The grant will help us reach so many more people.”
As a Champion in Action, the organization will receive:
- A $35,000 contribution in unrestricted funds from Citizens Bank
- The opportunity for the organization's Executive Director to participate in a "President-to-President" mentorship with Citizens Bank of Pennsylvania President Daniel Fitzpatrick;
- Promotional support highlighting the Champion in Action on all Citizens Bank branch DCN screens and on its ATMs;
- News coverage and public service announcements from WPXI-TV and Pittsburgh Tribune-Review;
- Volunteer support from Citizens Bank, Pittsburgh Cares, WPXI-TV and the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review;
- Extensive public relations support;
