RBS Citizens Financial Group receives international recognition through Citizens Helping Citizens community investment initiative

SPONSORIUM Awards honor “companies from around the world who are improving the quality of community life in their local markets and globally

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – RBS Citizens Financial Group has received international recognition at the second annual SPONSORIUM Awards in Miami, FL – an award highlighting “companies from around the world who are improving the quality of community life in their local markets and globally.” They did this by integrating community into sponsorships through Citizens Helping Citizens, a program embracing the community goals of RBSCFG.

“We are honored by this recognition of the impact our sponsorship efforts are having on local communities,” said Barbara Cottam, Executive Vice President and Head of Corporate Affairs for RBSCFG. “We could not achieve this kind of impact without the close partnerships we have built with local nonprofit organizations in each of the communities we serve. We share this recognition with our partners and thank them for their leadership.”

The bank’s Citizens Helping Citizens program addresses five key areas: hunger, housing, economic development, financial education and volunteerism through the following initiatives:

  • Citizens Helping Citizens Fight Hunger
  • Citizens Helping Citizens Provide Shelter
  • Citizens Helping Citizens Strengthen Communities (economic development)
  • Citizens Helping Citizens Teach Money Management (financial education) and
  • Citizens Helping Citizens Give (volunteerism and charitable donations)

By integrating the bank’s sponsorships such as Phans Feeding Families, Striking Out Hunger with the Pawsox and Boston Summer Arts Festival with efforts to support food banks, RBS Citizens delivered more than 400,000 meals for families in need in 2013. In another example, the bank partnered with the Philadelphia Phillies to help more than 7,000 Philadelphia-area children participate in the Phillies’ Jr. RBI baseball league.

“RBS Citizens Financial Group is recognized as a leader in meeting their community objectives and is truly making a difference in local communities,” said Paul Pednault, Founder and President, SPONSORIUM. “We’re pleased to spotlight RBSCFG and congratulate the bank’s colleagues on their ability to deliver such a positive impact.”
