Citizens Bank Foundation announces $2,500 grant to Claremont Soup Kitchen
Grant will help provide 2,500 meals for individuals and families in Sullivan County
Manchster, N.H. (July 17, 2013) – The Citizens Bank Foundation has awarded a $2,500 grant to the Claremont Soup Kitchen’s dinner service program, which will provide 2,500 meals to those in need. The soup kitchen offers meal service Monday through Thursday, providing 173 hot meals each night.
The grant is part of the bank’s Citizens Helping Citizens Fight Hunger initiative that focuses on eradicating hunger by supporting innovative programs and organizations that provide access to nutritious food.
“Many individuals and families in our area are facing challenging times, and their budgets are stretched,” said Branch Manager Michele Wright of the Citizens Bank in Claremont. “By supporting the Claremont Soup Kitchen, we can ensure that our neighbors have a place to go when they need a nutritious meal and support from their community.”
The Claremont Soup Kitchen is a nonprofit community agency dedicated to serving individuals and families in the Sullivan County area who need food assistance. The organization has seen a tremendous increase in the need for its services over the last year. In addition to daily hot evening meals, it also provides food boxes, hygiene products, laundry soap and diapers to its clients.
“The economy is still recovering, making it difficult for many to afford rent, heat, health care, and food for themselves and their families,” said Janet Bunnell, Executive Director, Claremont Soup Kitchen. “We served nearly 7,500 more people last year than the year before, and the need continues to grow. This support from the Citizens Bank Foundation will help provide more meals to meet the increased demand.”
