Citizens Bank and RBS Citizens support The One Fund Boston benefitting Boston Marathon attack victims

Citizens pledges $100,000 to The One Fund Boston, encourages customers and colleagues to donate, plans colleague blood drive

Boston, Mass. - (April 19, 2013) – RBS Citizens Financial Group today announced its support for The One Fund Boston with a $100,000 donation from the Citizens Bank Foundation and an effort to encourage customers, the general public and thousands of bank colleagues to also support the fund benefitting the victims of this week’s Boston Marathon attack.

To encourage its more than 19,000 colleagues to donate to The One Fund Boston, Citizens will match colleague donations up to $1,000 as part of Citizens Helping Citizens Give, the bank’s colleague volunteerism and charitable giving program. Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Tom Menino created The One Fund Boston Tuesday as a central point of support for victims of the bombings in Boston this week.

“This week’s tragic attack was a direct assault not only on the people who were gathered in Copley Square Monday afternoon but on the broader Boston community, and we stand with Gov. Patrick, Mayor Menino and others who are supporting The One Fund Boston,” said Jerry Sargent, President of Citizens Bank and RBS Citizens, Massachusetts. “This unified effort will provide much-needed help to the people most affected by this week’s tragedy, and it also serves as an important symbol of Boston’s strength and resolve following the senseless violence of this week.”

In addition to its financial support, the bank will promote The One Fund Boston and encourage broader public donations through social media, materials in Citizens Bank branches across New England, ATM messages and banner ads on citizensbank.com. These efforts will direct customers and members of the general public to The One Boston Fund’s online portal .

Citizens’ response also will include a colleague blood drive at several Boston-area locations in the coming days.
