Citizens Bank rebates fees for consumer and small business customers affected by Hurricane Sandy

Providence, RI (October 30, 2012) - Citizens Bank announced today that it is rebating a variety of overdraft, ATM and credit card fees incurred by customers during the height and immediate aftermath of Hurricane Sandy in several states.

The following types of fees will be rebated upon request for the bank’s Consumer Banking and Business Banking customers in states impacted by the storm:

  • Overdraft fees, including sustained overdraft fees
  • Overdraft protection line of credit transfer fees
  • Credit card late fees
  • Foreign ATM fees (charged by Citizens Bank; other banks’ fees not included)

The rebates will be offered to Citizens Bank customers in Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont. They will be applied to fees for transactions posted to the account on October 29 and October 30.

"We are committed to helping our customers weather the effects of the storm," said Brad Conner, vice chairman for Consumer Banking at RBS Citizens Financial Group. "We want our customers to be focused on the recovery effort, and this is our way of letting them know we’re all in this together."

Customers are invited to contact a Citizens Bank representative through our 24/7 contact center at 1-800-922-9999, or to visit a convenient branch location for assistance with a rebate.

The severity of Hurricane Sandy forced the closure of Citizens Bank branches in several states this week, following evacuation orders and the storm’s impacts on roads and public transportation systems. Throughout the storm, the bank has continued supporting its customers via online banking at citizensbank.com and through its 24/7 Customer Contact Center, reachable by calling 1-800-922-9999.
