Citizens Bank and WMUR-TV recognize Ted McGreer as “heart" of Keene

“Heart of Your City" program on NH Chronicle highlights people throughout the state who make a difference in their community

Manchester, N.H. (March 6, 2012) – Citizens Bank and WMUR-TV have named Ted McGreer as this month’s Heart of Your City for his outstanding commitment to the city of Keene. McGreer’s story, which highlights the positive impact he has made in the community, was featured on NH Chronicle on March 5.

Heart of Your City is a year-long partnership between Citizens Bank and WMUR-TV that profiles people who are making good things happen in New Hampshire’s 13 cities. Each honoree is featured on NH Chronicle and on the Destination Downtown section of WMUR-TV’s website.

McGreer is the owner of Ted’s Shoe and Sport, a successful business in downtown Keene. On a monthly basis, McGreer collects gently worn shoes at his store for the Soles for Soles program. In addition, McGreer often donates proceeds from store sales to charities dear to his heart, such as Monadnock Developmental Services and Easter Seals to support autism early intervention. He also raised $800 for the American Red Cross and donated a dozen pairs of shoes to flood victims during the 2008 Cheshire County flooding.

“I love the feeling of positively impacting someone else’s life," said Ted McGreer. “I couldn’t do all that I do without the support of my amazing wife and children, friends and colleagues. They are my inspiration and truly make me a better person."

McGreer currently serves as vice president on the board of directors of Pathways for Keene and is also on the board of MoCo Arts. He has been an Elm City Rotarian for the past 10 years, serving as president from 2008-2009. He is on countless committees and planning boards geared toward strengthening business, tourism and family-friendly events in downtown Keene.

“Ted is an inspiring example of what good citizenship is all about," said Joe Carelli, President, Citizens Bank, New Hampshire. “In New Hampshire, we are fortunate to have people who are very committed to making a positive impact on our state every day. We are proud to work with WMUR-TV to showcase them and the tremendous work they do in our communities."

“Ted always goes above and beyond to help those in need," said Susan Newcomer, workforce coordinator for the Greater Keene Chamber of Commerce and fellow Elm City Rotarian. “His generosity and genuine spirit are an important part of what makes Keene such a vibrant city. We truly appreciate all that he does for this community."

Other New Hampshire towns to be featured on the Heart of Your City program are Berlin, Claremont, Concord, Dover, Franklin, Laconia, Lebanon, Manchester, Nashua, Portsmouth, Rochester and Somersworth.
